Bay Area Mask Mandate Reinstated

Bay Area residents will once again be required to wear masks indoors. The August 2, 2021 Order, announced at a joint news conference today, goes into effect at 12:01a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2021, and will affect more than 7 million residents in the region. Health officials in San Francisco and seven other Bay area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sonoma and Berkeley) announced that masks will once again be required for all indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status, in an effort to curb the spread of COVID and the Delta variant.

The new health orders, which vary by county, require a mask in all public settings or private settings when around people outside of your household. Businesses will be required to implement and enforce the mask order. Those unable to wear masks should consider alternatives, like a gaiter, a face shield, or anything else that may be effective in preventing droplets from spreading from their nose or mouth.
