When was the last time you reviewed your employment policies?
It may be time to take a look as a host of new laws went into effect January 1 ranging from guidance on employees’ use of cannabis outside of the workplace to restrictions on considering criminal history in hiring practices.
Mitzel Group attorneys Krista Mitzel and Ronak Patel covered California’s new SB 848 in the “New Laws” edition of the Daily Journal, which came out on January 3. In the article, “SB 848: California Implements Leave for Reproductive Loss,” the two explain how SB 848 expands existing bereavement leave laws to include additional “reproductive laws events,” including a failed adoption, failed surrogacy, miscarriage, stillbirth, or an unsuccessful assisted reproduction. The article provides more guidance on when and how this type of leave should be applied. Here’s the <<link>> to the Daily Journal website (subscription is required to view the article).
